Hi, If Windows 7 came preinstalled, here are the Key/s to press at Boot to start the Recovery Process back to Factory Settings (new condition) Sony Vaio – Tap F10 until the Edit Boot Options screen is displayed If preinstalled, you can contact your Computer Manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of Recovery Disks. Manufacturers normally do that for a small cost. Or download the correct ISO file and make your own disk and use the Product Key that is on the COA Sticker. And here are instructions on how to burn ISO images to disk: Then do a clean install: The COA sticker is either on the underside of the Laptop or in the Battery Compartment (you already have this). With a Desktop it is either on the side, rear or top of the Computer Case. Using the downloaded ISO file Method may require phone Activation.
If it does require phone Activation, do not follow the Auto Prompts, but hold on for a real person to explain to as to what has been done for re-installation purposes ' How to Activate Windows 7 by Phone' The above method also will require you to go to your Computer Manufacturer's website Support and Downloads Section locate your Model Number and Operating System then download and install the latest Drivers for it.
Ok, so a friend has a late 00s Sony Vaio laptop and the HDD is failing. Here's I want to do: 1) A clean install of Windows 7 Pro on the new SSD, either from my computer via external enclosure or from installer on thumbdrive on his computer with the new SSD installed. Then, use factory install Windows license key on back of Vaio. 2) Pull files off of failing HDD from my computer via external disk enclosure. I have no idea where to find a download for the Windows 7 installer. I just want to use the license key included on the back of the Vaio. Also, I cannot just use the recovery partition or clone the existing HDD because it is failing and I don't want undue stress on it.
The only work i want it doing is through access to its files from my computer. The only link I have found on Sony's website is to order disks. Is this my only option? Any help would be appreciated. I'm not sure why this needs to be this difficult.

Never knew thatNeither did I know that - interesting. From Microsoft: Q. Can I install OEM on a virtual machine (VMware)? You may install OEM in a virtual environment as long as you have a separate license for each instance of the software. It is fine to use the OEM version as long as it is properly licensed. To be clear, a separate version of software must be installed for both the “standard” and “virtual” installations.

OEM System Builder Keys work in exactly the same way as Retail Full License Keys - with two exceptions. Nicolae guta uitate in ochi mei. 1) you can only install using a clean install procedure, if you opt to input the Key during the install. You cannot do an Upgrade install with an OEM Key. 2) the License is locked to the VM - so if you decide to switch from MS VPC to VirtualBox or VMware (or any other swap), you can expect a non-genuine flag! So I have a Sony PCG-71312L (Model: VPCEB15FM) who's CD reader won't read my Windows 7 installation disk! The disk is a Windows 7 Pro x64-bit. I tried installing it through a USB bootable drive but all it does is hangs during installation!

It hangs because there is a USB plugged into the ports, but, how else am I suppose to install the win7 without the USB? So I need help.
My alternate option is to not upgrade it to Win7 Pro, and use a clean Win7 Home Edition (btw, the win7 pro disk is cracked/activated, but I uninstall the key and use a legit key i bought to activate it correctly.
